Dragonette continue with the upbeat, sexually charged electro-rock they began with their 2007 Galore debut on Fixin To Thrill.
The band started pumping out singles from the disc in May, and it's not surprising that two of them are found towards the beginning of the record. It begins very promisingly with the title track and the banjo-sampling "Gone Too Far." From there, things move through a few more tracks before the catchy "Pick Up The Phone."
But things slow down after that, as one starts to realize that most of the record sounds the same. There isn't anything wrong with this per se, and sure, "Big Sunglasses" and "Okay Delore" are good songs, but they don't stand out the way the first half of the record does, or how Galore's "Take It Like A Man" did.
One can't help but get the feeling Dragonette are just going through the motions on Fixin To Thrill, which isn't nearly as thrilling as its title would suggest.
