Jet — Shaka Rock

YES! It's been six years since Jet debuted "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," three years since their somewhat forgotten sophomore release, and now they've reunited with their riff rock roots to bring us an album that offers a visceral account of what rock 'n' roll should be.
We've got '60s Brit-pop throwback "Beat On Repeat," classic rock on "Black Hearts (On Fire)" and a little bit of a modern touch on "Times Like These." This whole album brings back that era where Jet songs played alongside The Hives and The Vines and the resurgence is thrilling. They definitely locked themselves in a small room with a record player, passed around a joint and took all those intense elements of their influences and melded them with modern swagger.
The self-produced Shaka Rock howls with passion and love for their art and we as listeners are rewarded with easily one of the most fun records of 2009. This is chain-smoking, whisky-drinking, gritty good times right from opener "K.I.A (Killed In Action) through to "Start The Show."
Welcome back, Jet. Rock 'n' roll missed you.
