Oh, how I wish Hanson would take their classic/power pop leanings one step further and get someone like, say, Jack White to produce their next record. Because dang if they don't have amazing songs on Underneath, but they suffer under the slick, adult contempo production. Songs like "Lost Without Each Other" and the Matthew Sweet co-penned "Underneath" are mix-tape must-haves, but they'd be even stronger if they didn't sound so squeaky-clean. But song for song, Underneath is better than just about any other pop record that'll come out this year. Steal it from your little sister — or better yet, buy it for her.
