Ringo is feeling pretty optimistic these days. "There is a light!" he proclaims on the sing-song opener "Fading In Fading Out." From there, he goes all peace-and-love on these solid country-blues and rootsy pop-rock numbers, like on the gospel-inflected "Oh My Lord," which includes guitar work from Robert Randolph. It's a good thing that Starr's Zen moment isn't accompanied by new-agey preaching; these are still pop songs sung in Starr's easy-going everyman tenor. However, the Walrus-like duet with doesn't quite fit and the Bowie/Waits-like dance-romp "Free Drinks" is a bit hokey, even though it's the most interesting track on the disc.
