It's been a benchmark 12 months for hardcore. With Fucked Up and Gallows dropping game changing albums, the bar has been sufficiently raised for anyone laying down chunky riffs and screaming bloody murder.
Although Buffalo, N.Y.'s Every Time I Die are strictly a hardcore band, (these guys definitely listened to a Pantera record or two growing up), they incorporate enough of the sub-genre's aesthetic into their brutal hodge-podge to stand tall amongst the aforementioned bands.
Few albums can claim to be as relentless as New Junk Aesthetic, their debut on Epitaph. The thought of trying to sing just one of their songs is enough to send you to the throat doctor, let alone making it through an entire album.
Epitaph have made some highly questionable signings of late, so it's refreshing to see a band of the quality and integrity of Every Time I Die getting the wider exposure they deserve.
