L.A.'s HEALTH pick up where Battles left off with 2007's Mirrored and build soundscapes from propulsive drumming, accentuating the pounding rhythms with scronks and scrunches from various keyboards, guitars and whatever else seemed to be lying around the studio. "Die Slow" and "Eat Flesh" in particular make good use of this formula.
In between, singer Jack Duzsik's vocals fade in and out. What's he saying? Damned if I know. But that's not the point.
Bands like HEALTH aren't the sum of their parts, easily discernable from one another. On their own, each member's contribution is literal noise. But as a whole, Get Color is a supremely sublime collection of music. For a noise band, these guys sure know how to swing.
