Gorillaz — Demon Days

Music Review
Gorillaz' Demon Days

It was impossible to predict what Gorillaz were going to do on their new record — there was no way it could be as shockingly good as their self-titled debut. On Demon Days, they're still solid despite the switch-up of Dan The Automator in favour of Danger Mouse on the production side. Damon Albarn continues handling lead vocals and he maintains the same cool here that he managed to pull off on the previous record. So what's missing?

Well for one, there isn't a smash hit akin to "Clint Eastwood" lying in wait. Still, the more you spin it, the more Demon Days reveals itself as a surprisingly decent sophomore album for the animated group. With De La Soul, Dennis Hopper and a children's choir all making appearances, they're overreaching a bit, but there's enough substance in the songwriting to prove Gorillaz might be more than just a novelty.
