Martha Wainwright — Martha Wainwright
- Martha Wainwright
- MapleMusic/Universal
- 4 / 5

Continuing the Wainwright family’s streak of creating powerful records is Martha, little sister of Rufus. She's been threatening a breakthrough for a while now, but this spectacular and very, very long overdue debut full-length is still unexpected, capturing her stunning, expressive voice.
Wainwright isn't just a sweet songbird; she's the black dove with the weather-beaten coo and has the ability to howl like a seasoned blues singer. It's that expressive voice that makes tortured folk rockers "Ball And Chain" and the soon-to-be classic "Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole" brave, jaw-dropping and frighteningly passionate. A long wait, yes, but with such a ripe debut that meshes folk, jazz, blues and rock like the finest wine, the wait was more than worth it.
