Moneen — The World I Want To Leave Behind

Music Review
Moneen's The World I Want To Leave Behind
Moneen have been away for a while and have gone through some lineup changes, so it's not surprising frontman Kenny Bridges said they wanted to make The World I Want To Leave Behind something that's "us, but at the same time completely different [from anything] we have done before."

Gone are the unbelievably long song titles that marked their previous releases. First single "Hold That Sound" and tracks like "Great Escape," "The Monument" and "Red Eyes" are the kind of thing you could find on the band's three prior albums. But "Believe" and "The Long Count" integrate strings and orchestral parts into the mix, and "Lighters" shows the band's quieter sound.

While there isn't a bad song on the album per se, many of the tracks sound like the band are just beginning to figure themselves out again after their absence. David Bottrill's (Tool, Muse) production has certainly strengthened and thickened the band's sound, but you get the feeling he and Brian Moncarz haven't really helped them figure themselves out at all.
