The Meligrove Band could very well be Toronto’s finest potential heir to Sloan’s pop rock throne. Having started the band when they were barely legal, the Meligroves are now as old as the Sloans were when it all started for them. Their latest offering, Let It Grow, certainly shows the band is on its way. Catchy to the point of shamelessness, the album is fixated on ‘60s sunny pop like The Beach Boys and The Monkees ("Now Look What You’ve Done" and "Check Your Messages"), with nods to mod rock and power pop. Time will tell whether or not they are able to create a sound that’s all their own. Let them grow, indeed.
