Vancouver’s Dan Bejar — the central figure in all things Destroyer — is the reigning king of intelligent non-dance music. Over the past seven years, Destroyer have released a string of albums that combine fascinating (and copious) lyrics and Bejar’s deadpan voice with unusual song structures that still manage to fit under the catch all pop umbrella. This Night is no exception. The 15 songs here paint vivid, and sometimes absurd, pictures. Beautiful, complex and dark (if not downright depressing), This Night is an album to get lost in on those nights when there’s nothing better to do than spend the night alone with your headphones.
