The sophomore disc from the guy who, let’s face it, WAS Crowded House doesn’t change the face of music, as we know it. On One All, the more-talented Finn Bro doesn’t reshape the boundaries of sound or display a heretofore-undiscovered penchant for post-aggro-electro-romantique-punk. Instead, the disc merely sounds exactly like you’d expect a Neil Finn disc to do — Smart. Catchy. Suitable for both slow dances and campfire sing-along. And, of course, damn good.
Sure, the marsupial Jim Cuddy tends to throw on a little too many overtly-overly-sappy sonnets to soul-mates, but hey, that’s what the "next track" button is for — so you can skip ahead and check out the Split Enz-esque rock of "Hole In The Ice," the darkness of "Human Kindness" and the pretty duets with that Sheryl Crow girl on "Driving Me Mad" and "Turn And Run." And, hey, if you DO want saccharine tunes, then you’ll find wedding songs a-plenty on the disc. Everybody wins.
