- 3.5 / 5

Rather than cashing in on songs that didn’t cut it with the rest of Blue Rodeo, Greg Keelor saves his solo albums for when he really has something to say. In this case, Seven Songs For Jim is Keelor’s method of dealing with the recent death of his father and the songs show the songwriter in an incredibly vulnerable light. Stripping away the polish and country-pop confines of his day job, Keelor’s musical therapy is so raw and minimal that the disc is at times difficult to listen to. Lacking Blue Rodeo’s melody, but making up for it in intensity, Seven Songs is a side of Keelor that hits uncomfortably hard, but incredibly effectively.
