Red Hot Chili Peppers’ guitarist John Frusciante wraps up his six-releases-in-six-months journey with a very strong outing. Curtains is somewhat stripped down musically compared to the others in his series, coming across as almost unplugged after some of his heavier electronic material. Lyrically, however, things are exactly the same: lots of questioning life, battling confusion and constantly fighting to stay out of the darkness. While it might seem redundant to put out six records dealing with the same themes, it’s the brilliant dichotomy of creating bright, catchy music filled with thoughts of doom and gloom that keeps his fans coming back.
