Dead And Divine — The Machines We Are
- The Machines We Are
- Distort/Universal
- 4.5 / 5

Dead And Divine have followed up their debut LP, The Fanciful, with another visceral assault of brutally heavy metal-hardcore paired with some of the most well thought-out melodies you've ever heard.
Lyrically, the album is even more developed than the first, as songs about sensitive subjects such as despair, drug addictions and inner-demons are brought to life by vocalist Matt Tobin's intense, livid passion. The Machines We Are is another example of intelligent music coming out of Burlington, Ont., a marked shift in this hardcore hub.
The Machines We Are is produced by Garth "GGGarth" Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Rise Against, Mudvayne) and Eric Ratz (Billy Talent, Cancer Bats), and is incredible in both content and production.
Tobin's gut-wrenching howl is best illuminated on songs like "Neon Jesus" and "D.R.U.G.S," while his gorgeous harmonies sparkle on tracks like "Teeth" and "Lovely Bones."
This album has more of an emphasis on harmony and layers, does not disappoint and will be appreciated for its brilliance even by those who typically dismiss hardcore music.
