You’ve got to hand it to Erasure. Since establishing their formula of synth-based romantic melodrama in the ‘80s, they haven’t let two decades of new trends alter their style one bit. Fortunately, Erasure are one of those bands that wear their lack of evolution well. Though Nightbird takes a while to get off the ground, it starts to soar with the rave-up anthem "I’ll Be There" and then softens all resistance with its addictive melodies and singer Andy Bell’s sheer theatrical dedication. It’s all very predictable, but for Erasure that’s a compliment of the highest order.
