Winnipeg’s Endearing Records score again with another installment in their Intercontinental Pop Exchange series. Volume 6 features the work of Vancouver’s Ox, paired with L.A.’s Kid Lightning. The four Ox tracks serve as an excellent preview to Dust Bowl Revival’s (the group’s stunning, roots-country debut) follow-up. To complement Ox’s gritty, heartfelt troubadour melodies, Kid Lightning provide a smoother, more melodic counterpart, though equally as naked and understated. Once again, two acts from different regions are perfectly matched — they’re similar enough to provide a smooth transition, but different enough to make you wonder what else they have to offer.
