Never let it be said that Simple Plan follow trends. While their pop-punk brethren in Blink-182, Sum 41 and even mascara-heads Good Charlotte have released new records showing their desire to move beyond their pop-punk sounds and onto maturation,
Still Not Getting Any follows in the path of Simple Plan’s debut. Singing over generic power chord melodies, Pierre Bovier still whines lyrics that are just witless enough to make Hilary Duff sound like Morrissey. Song after song about not being loved, being misunderstood, locking yourself in your bedroom and being mad at your dad — this is music for angry 12-year-olds. "Eh, making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel," said Bart Simpson, but with this disc, that seems to be the plan. And a very simple plan it is.
