Imagine, if you will, a time when real artistry was respected and Kanye West wasn’t creating beats for everyone from Jamie Foxx to your mom. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Well, that was the ‘60s and Leonard Cohen is one of the few survivors from that era who continues to create honest, deeply heartfelt music nearly four decades later. Opener "Go No More A-Roving" reintroduces Cohen’s signature rasp and bittersweet air, setting the mood for Dear Heather. His poetic side shines most brightly on the spoken, minimalist "Villanelle For Our Time." If you want to hear what real music sounds like again, Cohen’s your man.
