The Dandy Warhols — The Dandy Warhols Are Sound

Music Review
The Dandy Warhols Are Sound

The Dandy Warhols firmly believe they should be the biggest band in the world, or at least the most important. Unfortunately, the general public has generally disagreed despite some brief flirtations. And for a brief moment in 2003, there was a sense this pattern might change.

Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia gave them a taste of the critical and commercial spotlight they so craved and the documentary Dig! introduced them to a whole new audience. But Welcome To The Monkey House disappointed on both critical and commercial fronts and the band never really recovered.

Are Sound is Russel Elevado's alternate mixes to Welcome To The Monkey House. The band hoped to release them, but they were overruled by their record company. It's more lively and warm than the stale Monkey House, but enjoyment of Are Sound still hinges on how you felt about the songs in the first place; if you dug the new electro-tinged direction, then by all means this is the record for you. But if you yearn for the neo-psychedelic pop of their early trio of albums, there's really no need to own another version of an album you never liked first time around.
