From the grunge-era dynamics of "Self-Esteem" to the punk-hop of "Original Pranksta," there aren't many pop genres that Dexter Holland and company haven't touched over the years. However, this Greatest Hits record also shows that The Offspring really only hit the mark when they're working with an underdog narrative and a whoah-whoah chorus. Songs like "All I Want" and "The Kids Aren't All Right" still register, while "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" is as dated and embarrassing as its delusional subject. From radio hit to radio hit, this is the sound of a band gradually making peace with their commercial instincts.
