Director Darren Aronofsky has upped his own ante with one of the best films of 2006. The Fountain is a mind-fuck of a love story that focuses on two characters and their time-paralleled alter egos. Aronofsky weaves the tale so skillfully and, where other directors would end up with a convoluted mess, creates a truly special and heartwarming story that's worthy of the word "epic." It's a film that students will be dissecting in 20 years.
