Darlings Of Chelsea's The Mimico Sessions debut EP is full of strong songs, but ultimately comes across as a bit unfocussed.
"I Want Your Love" opens with a Billy Talent-esque guitar riff, while "New Addiction" sounds strangely like indie rock mixed with '90s Can-Rock. On the other hand, "Helsinki" and "Sleazy Rock 'N' Roller" sound like a carbon copy of something you'd find on a Danko Jones record, and "Riot" again brings '90s rock to mind.
While all these songs contain strong hooks and show the band's potential, it's clear they're still finding their focus at this point. Considering their band members are alumni of '90s Can-Rock acts like The Black Halos, Scratching Post and Robin Black And The Intergalactic Rock Stars, there's obvious talent here that could be tapped if they can refine what they've got.
