So what exactly happened to the children's book writing English rose since 2003's sombre and downright embarrassing American Life? She went to the dance clubs. For her 10th album, Madge embraces her pop past and looks to the future of disco to create 12 addictive, energetic dance tracks that don't let you stop to catch your breath. It took a couple years, but Madonna is optimistic and fun again. First single, "Hung Up," is a jerky disco track with deep bass and chugging beats that's jolly and catchy as hell, even though the ticking clock and lyrics about expectation bring to mind Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For?" "I Love New York" is bombastic and overflows with attitude and the ass-shaking beats and hand claps of "Jump" make you groove it or lose it. If this is what sipping English tea does, then everyone should have a cup.
