True Blood: Music From The Original HBO Series

True Blood: Music From The Original HBO Series

The goal of any soundtrack — or at least any soundtrack that aims to be more than a cash grab mishmash of marketable tracks — should be to capture the essence of the material that it supports.

Within the context of the show, the music of True Blood is a perfect compliment to the somewhat seedy, sexy and spooky vampire drama on screen. On disc, however, it's just not as evocative.

There are tracks here that live up to expectations. CC Adcock & The Lafayette Marquis' "Bleed 2 Feed," Th' Legendary Shack Shakers' "Swampblood," and the show's theme song, Jace Everett's "Bad Things," all do True Blood justice in a dirty kind of way, but by the time The Watson Twins' ill advised cover of "Just Like Heaven" starts playing, the soundtrack has definitely lost its (pardon the pun) bite.

Ain't nobody going to be drinking at Merlotte's, doing V, sexing vampires or killing women who sex vampires to this some of these sleepy tracks.
