The Paint Movement @ NXNE 2009

Live Review
Background/ Composition:
The Paint Movement are four friends from Mississauga, Ont. plus another handful of friends they enlist for live shows. They create long, atmospheric jazz-rock songs that result in a big sound full of layers of passion.

Grade: 82

Comment:
While their music — moreso their live show — is respected, it's not anything overwhelming. This show was well done in coordination and sound, but felt too much like a frat party.

Strengths/Weaknesses/Next Step:
The Paint Movement are good at what they do, which is creating sweeping songs to smooth vocals and getting the crowd to dance. The live show is more impressive than their recorded music, but only for the large jam band feel. They played many tracks off of Our Eurythmy as well as a new song, which sounded great.
