Jets Overhead — No Nations

After listening to Jets Overhead's 2006 Bridges album a couple of years ago, I thought this band needed a bigger budget to fill out their promising shoegazer sound.
The quintet have stepped up into the major leagues with No Nations. With a significant financial budget, the Jets spent enough time in a big recording studio to twiddle as many knobs as possible to come with the sonic attack necessary to marry the sonic bliss of post-modern psychedlia (think second cousins to The Dandy Warhols) with the radio-friendly sounds of Our Lady Peace. But still something is missing, and throwing money at the band's recording didn't solve it completely.
No Nations has some wonderful moments amidst their well-crafted pop songs. For example, the ethereal female harmony vocals are placed much more up front than on Bridges, especially on the lead single "Heading For Nowhere." It's a good song, but there's still some undefineable something missing.
The rest of the album unravels aimlessly. The promising "Weathervanes (In The Way)" is matched by the unremarkable "Sure Sign." The album comes to a skidding halt with an overly-inflated opus, "Tired Of The Comfort."
In the end, the promise remains, but Jets Overhead still haven't capitalized on it.
