The departure of guitarist Brian "Head" Welch hasn't had a huge effect on Korn's sound, which hasn't changed much since the late '90s. Songs like "Twisted Transistor" have the same down-tuned groove of hits like "Here To Stay," but there's a much darker, industrial sound at work on See You On The Other Side. Slower dirges such as "Throw Me Away" and "Love Song" trade in seven-string guitars and slap bass for keyboards and drum machines. Regardless, frontman Jonathan Davis still finds a whole lot to be angry about and the music still has that pre-packaged angsty feel to it. The dark atmospheres they try to create seem shallow and tacked on. There's some welcome change here, but it's too little too late.
