The name really says it all with this one. This bitchin' compilation covers pretty much the entire metal music spectrum, from thrash to sludge and everything in between. Spanning three discs and filled to the brim with double-pedal bass kicks and ripping guitar solos, This Is Metal is almost exhausting in its extensive coverage of metal sub-genres you never even knew existed (folk metal!?). That's what makes it the perfect choice for the uninitiated. The most interesting part of the compilation is the covers disc, which features classic rock tracks by bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden being reworked by lesser-known up-and-comers. If you're in the dark about heavy metal, This Is Metal is the perfect stepping stone.
