"Where you been gone so long?" Spoon frontman Brit Daniel croons on Gimme Fiction's opener, "The Beast And Dragon, Adored." It's been almost three years since Spoon's last album, but this one, like all the rest, was worth the wait. Spoon are, bar none, one of the most consistent bands on the planet. From their acclaimed debut, A Series Of Sneaks, to 2002's Kill The Moonlight, the Texas natives have managed to sound fresh without straying too far from their signature sound.
Gimme Fiction only adds to that reputation — sometimes Beatles, at others Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, but always engaging. This record is slightly more downbeat than its predecessor, but here Daniel sounds more confident than ever. The arrangements on each song are incredibly lush and often hypnotic. If you haven't heard a Spoon record before, you can't go wrong by starting here. If you have, prepare to be amazed once again.
