This Winnipeg quartet’s punishing old school metalcore onslaught is the sort of rough ‘n’ tumble stuff punks used to play before they launched their own clothing lines and dated Hilary Duff. Drummer Kyle Profeta smashes his kit with enough kinetic force to separate it into atomic particles while singer Scott Wade barks anti-everything mumbo-jumbo like a leather-lunged poli-sci major. Subtlety and nuance are first against the wall here; CK don’t play their songs so much as beat them up. The best tracks on Wake The Dead are their short, quick, furious blurts of outrage and pain featured on "The Trouble I Love" and "Our Distance." While Wake The Dead may be derivative, it sure isn’t boring.
