Like the popular Rebirth Of Cool series, The Blue Series compiles experimental underground jazz and hip-hop. Spooky, the notorious avant-garde mixologist, was given the honour of remixing new songs that draw from The Blue Series line-up. The result is a two-disc release that features remixes and originals. The new versions sample from some well-known underground hip-hoppers, techno producers and spoken-word poets, including Antipop Consortium, Saul Williams and J-Live. Ultimately, the variety and lightness of the unmixed set prevails over Spooky’s dark, meandering reworks.
