A healthy dose of skepticism is good, especially when it comes to bands being labelled the Big New Thing. But there's a lot happening on TV On The Radio's first album, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes.
Based out of the hipster enclave of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, TVOTR eschews trendiness for revelatory art rock, creating music that is both immediately catchy and deep enough that hours can be spent with it and you still won’t catch all the nuances. Tunde Adebimpe’s resonant voice — often layered in gorgeous harmonies — lures you in to look at a world where women and men love and hurt and not everything is as it seems.
