Destroyer — Your Blues
- Your Blues

Dan Bejar’s pop songs — over the course of almost a half dozen Destroyer albums and two as a member of The New Pornographers — have started to get a bit samey over the past couple of projects. To break the cycle, the elusive musician has come out strong with Your Blues, which verges on being a concept album.
Rather than coming off as a straight pop record, Your Blues treads close to rock opera territory (think Hedwig And The Angry Inch) featuring Bejar singing with a heightened sense of bravado. He steps it up with glorious synthesized orchestration (as performed on Kurtzweil K2600 and Roland XV3080 keyboards), musical references galore and some of his most incredulous lyrics to date. On paper it all sounds like a goof, but in reality, Bejar is dead serious and has made a fantastically bold album that easily ranks among the best in his catalogue.
