Sevendust — Seasons

The fourth album from Atlanta metallers Sevendust follows the plan set out by their last album, Animosity. With Seasons, the band tones down their more intense metal sounds and lets the grooves do the talking. The record is unconventionally heavy, something more suited to a dance floor than a moshpit. There are a few duds on this record though. "Skeleton Song" is an annoying continuation of their hit "Angel’s Son." However standout tracks like the title track and "Separate" show the emotional quality of singer Lajon Witherspoon’s lyrics and inspire the best grooves from the band.
This record won’t please Sevendust fans that yearn for a more riff-based record like their self-titled debut. However it will bring the band one step closer to shrugging off the limited title of nu-metal. There’s also a bonus DVD that has a great live acoustic performance of the track "Black" off their debut.
