Thicker Than Water Soundtrack

Thicker Than Water Soundtrack

Singer-songwriter Jack Johnson is the mastermind (along with The Malloys) behind this surf film and accompanying soundtrack/score. This is a collection of soft, mellowed-out hippie-folk mixed with some blues and lightly tripped-out rock.  It’s a gentle listen and you can almost picture the blue waves and warm sun, which is a nice reprieve from the Canadian winter, albeit a bit torturous because it just reminds you of how God-awful cold it is out there.

Johnson’s songs are a mix instrumental and vocal tracks, but are all acoustic, relaxed numbers. "The Cove" is one of the best. Other artists include reggae-Brit Finley Quaye, G. Love And Special Sauce — who put a little funk into the mix — and the album ends with late-‘60s group Harpers Bizarre’s "Witchi Tai To," which is easily the most engaging songs on the whole album. It flows beautifully like a good soundtrack should.

Zip up your wetsuit and shake the sand out of your hair for this one.
