After years of toiling away in Nova Scotia's often overlooked hip-hop scene, Luke Boyd (a.k.a. Classified) finally scored a national hit with "Find Out" from 2006's Hitch Hikin' Music.
This follow-up, has already spawned another hit with "Anybody Listening" and proves the commercial and critical success of "Find Out" was no fluke. Self Explanatory is packed with tunes including both the lyrical wordplay to satisfy the hardest of hip-hop heads and potential for a mainstream crossover.
Boyd self-produced the disc and scored some plum guests, including Choclair, Maestro and Moka Only for "Quit While You're Ahead," and Joel Plaskett on the excellent "One Track Mind." The pan-Canadian focus of these artists, coupled with Boyd's Atlantic Canadian perspective, makes Self Explanatory a bright light in the Toronto-centric field of Canadian hip-hop.
