Doves — Kingdom Of Rust

Music Review
Doves' Kingdom of Rust
There are seas, oceans and a hill in Doves' rusty kingdom. Whether listeners let their imagination take them cascading down a cliff or they merely just close their eyes and listen, it's an enjoyable ride.

The album may sound a little too much like the stadium standards of Coldplay's Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends at times, but it's ultimately still satisfying. The sense of yearning gets stronger with each song, leading to a climax that happens in the second-last track, "House Of Mirrors."

While Kingdom Of Rust is hardly similar to 2002's The Last Broadcast or 2005's Some Cities, Doves find a place to excel in each song. From the groove of "Compulsion" to the lonely longing on "Winter Hill" and "10:03," there's a kingdom of listening adventure here.
