Carolyn Mark — Nothing Is Free
- Nothing Is Free
- Mint/Outside
- 3.5 / 5

B.C. socialite Carolyn Mark returns with an album that takes a few steps back and revisits the pure country goodness that she originally traded in. While past Mark full-lengths were built around themes such as parties, weddings and duets, there isn't an overriding concept on Nothing Is Freeand, as a result, the music is amongst the most earnest and unfettered of her career. Lead track "The Business End" is the perfect example, with Mark running her heartfelt vocals against backing harmonies and a subtle acoustic arrangement. The three-piece harmonies supplied by Mark and bandmates Emile Rhone and Diona Davies provide the finest moments on the album, as "Happy 2B Flying Away" and "Honest Woman" chug tastefully forth and give listeners an excellent sampling of the sound of Nashville north.
