There’s nothing I can say about this record that it doesn’t already say for itself. Trying to pin The Weakerthans down with words is a near impossible feat, but a girl’s gotta try. Reconstruction Site is a triumphant effort after the three-year gap from 2000’s Left And Leaving. It blends poetry, punk rock, country and folk into a mix of something that can’t be properly named. It’s the unabashed melodic rock of "Plea From The Cat Called Virtue." It’s the intensity of "The Reasons." It’s the bittersweetness of "One Great City!" It’s the haunting imagery of "(Hospital Vespers)!" It’s a hopeful, thoughtful album and it gets better with each listen. Learn from the lyrics. Feel your knees turn to jelly from the riffs. Buy it. Hear it. Love it.
