The funny thing about Mudvayne’s latest is the fact that without the scary vocals it would be as laughable as Dream Theater, but since half the vocals are grunted it can’t help but attract the kids. Hovering somewhere between Pantera and Disturbed, the band lay down 13 tracks that are chops-heavy and chunky. In and of itself the music isn’t horrible, but when vocalist CHUD actually takes a break from the horror vocals and tries to sing he comes off sounding like a cranky Stephen Page of Barenaked Ladies. This release has plenty of gusto when the tracks are taken in moderation, but it's kinda hard to take the band's jarring riffing and constipated vocal delivery for an entire album. The track "Not Falling" has the most potential, but the rest of the songs just follow that track's pattern too closely to be considered great.
