Sparks The Rescue — Eyes To The Sun

- 4.5 / 5

Sparks The Rescue's debut re-release kicks off strong with "My Heart Radio," which is sure to be a favourite summer road trip track. It's ridiculously catchy in that emo pop-punk way, and sets the tone for an album that pumps 40 minutes of the sheer, youthful energy of The Ataris, Taking Back Sunday and The Get Up Kids meshed with the songwriting abilities of AFI's Davey Havoc, Straylight Run's John Nolan and All-American Rejects' Tyson Ritter.
This album risks being discarded for sounding typical, but the quality of the songs lets it succeed. "Shipwreck" and "Chemistry Set" are catchy-as-fuck, guitar-driven tracks that encapsulate the down side of being a hot mess. Eyes To The Sun is reminiscent of this genre, before it became oversaturated with mediocrity, because the lyrics are smart and the instruments are sharp.
This band's talent is undeniable and refreshing, and they're perfect for those who love this genre now the way they did in 2002.
