Years is Do Make Say Think/Broken Social Scene member Ohad Benchetrit's first solo release.
It takes the best parts of Bell Orchestre, I Am Robot And Proud and The Hylozoists, and combines them into a sweeping flurry of instruments. As one would expect from Benchetrit's pedigree, there are also some very Do Make Say Think moments on this mostly instrumental disc.
To say the music on Years is lush would definitely be an understatement. There are often so many sounds flying about that it's impossible to identify more than a couple at a time. In spite of that abundance — likely due to his experience as a producer — Benchetrit manages to keep things from sounding distractingly crowded.
Those few that are still holding out for another Godspeed You! Black Emperor album (it's probably not going to happen, by the way) should at least be temporarily sated by some of Years' more orchestral moments.
