White Cowbell Oklahoma — Bombardero

Music Review
White Cowbell Oklahoma's Bombadero

White Cowbell Oklahoma have always been first and foremost a live entity. After all, it's tough to nail down an audio equivalent to strippers, lubricants and other elements of WCO's stage show.

Nonetheless, Bombardero is a solid effort any way you slice it and does a swell job of showcasing the band's absurd humour and love of dirty, dingy southern rock. It's all sonic rampage with little regard for much else.

The album brims over with nods to ZZ Top, The Black Crowes and KISS in the musicianship, which is tempered with their trademark spaghetti westernisms. And more impressively, the instrumental numbers — like the three separate title tracks and cosmically sloppy "Frankenstein" — demonstrate some serious chops with slick production and smart, dramatic compositional skills.

Yes, we're using that last line to refer to White Cowbell Oklahoma. Deal with it!
