For the last few years there was talk of this album being a complete departure from the last "electronic" sound of Pop, then it was supposed to be either a revisiting of the older Joshua Tree acoustic sound or the bombastic electric guitar vibe of older works like War and The Unforgettable Fire. Well, it ain't really any of those. More than anything it is indeed stripped down, but mature and settled in its ambience. Don't expect ANYTHING with this release (if that's possible), just remember that U2 is one of the remaining rock staples of the last two decades. Not many bands are still around kicking around album after album, selling out arena tours across the globe. These guys are pros, they know how to pen a killer pop tune and in the case of track three's "Elevation," a pretty kick-ass rock tune to boot. Not the blow-out success of an Achtung Baby, but a decent. solid album that comfortably goes with the U2 of the millennium.
