Toronto-via-Guelph’s Constantines are media darlings to the highest degree. Fanboys (and, to a lesser extent girls) and critics alike trip all over themselves as they attempt to come up with bigger, shinier adjectives with which to describe this gang of rock ‘n’ roll contenders. And while I don’t believe that Shine A Light is musical perfection, there are moments when singer Bryan Webb’s voice grabs me, even more moments where the melody and the unshakeable rhythms unite in a way less propulsive than protective, like a couple trying to battle through a winter storm. Single "Nightime/Anytime" has a big fat hook that can’t be avoided, while "On To You" should be heard blasting from a tilt-a-whirl at a county fair as the fall chill starts creeping into the air.
