The third release from the Ant Farm, preceded by their ironically titled debut Greatest Hits and 2001’s platinum-selling ANThology, delivers the trademark sound that fans have come to expect from the California rockers. truANT is both a natural progression and a definite maturation from ANThology, though it still packs the same Alien punch. Vocalist Dryden Mitchell continues to complain about the complications of love throughout the new album, but it’s coming from a different place this time. It’s less self-pitying and puts a newfound optimism and energy on the table, which is refreshing. truANT’s sweet, poppy melodies are easy on the ears, mixing straight-up rock with jazzy beats and a dash of calypso-style groove. Standout tracks include the angst-ridden opener "1000 Days" and the infectious "Glow," which invites listeners to get up and dance. The latest offering from the Ant Farm may not be especially challenging, but dammit, it’s catchy and sometimes that’s all that matters.
