Taken from the same 1987 sessions that yielded their debut album, Come On Pilgrim, this self-titled relic offers up nine Pixies songs, most of which ultimately appeared on their future albums. Although it offers little to the casual fan, this record makes one thing clear: even back in ‘87, the Pixies were writing incredible songs. "Here Comes Your Man" and "Broken Face" are a little rougher than their official takes, but they're still full of the Pixies' signature tension and energy — impressive coming from a young band in one of their first studio sessions. While this disc is really just for the diehards (newbies looking for an intro should pick up Doolittle or Surfer Rosa), it's a good reminder of how special the Pixies really were.
