Björk — Selmasongs
- Selmasongs
- Elektra/Warner
- 4 / 5

I like to think of Björk as a sort of mad scientist of music. It's easy to imagine the elfish ex-Sugarcube creating her music by throwing all sorts of odd elements together in a beaker and shouting, "Stand back! She might blow!"
Selmasongs is the accompanying soundtrack for Dancer In The Dark, the prize-winning movie at this year's Cannes (starring Björk, bien sur). As such, the album is a diverse range of musical stylings, ranging from classical soundtrack-esque to Björk's trademark big band to more experimental beats and industrialized samples.
Not varied enough for you? Well, how about an appearance by French actress Catherine Deneuve (think The Hunger)? Fizz, bubble... And now throw in a little Siobhan Fallon (another actress?) and look! Smoke is pouring out... And the final coup de gras, guaranteed to sell a few records: Radiohead's Thom Yorke. KABOOM! Another explosive album.
Should suit me nicely after my eyebrows grow back.
