Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds — No More Shall We Part

Music Review
No More Shall We Part

If Leonard Cohen were the lounge act for Heaven, Tom Waits for Hell, then Nick Cave is the lounge act for Purgatory. It's more distraught than Hell. Cave's melancholy songs have been the soundtrack to many a night of drunken barfly disasters.

With No More Shall We Part, many a solemn spirit worried that Cave's upswing in life happiness may have turned his blackness into a dull grey, or even (gasp!) white! Fear not, little cherubs of disaster. Cave's deep sense of foreboding is perfectly intact and his mastery of melodic desperation continues to go unchallenged on any of these 12 songs about love, God and sorrow.

If anything, No More Shall We Part simply proves that Cave will always be one of popular music's most graphic, imaginative storytellers. Eerie yet beautiful piano, subtle orchestration and that unforgettable deep, deep voice. Misery never felt so wonderful.
